The tree, which Maitland SES spokesperson Alex Varley said appeared to have been dead for a while, fell on a fence line between a private residence and a school in Lee Street.
"The owner propped the tree up with timbers and scaffold was anchoring the end down until SES could complete the task," Ms Varley said.
Ms Varley said the owner allowed the SES to use the job as a training task to give new members a chance to watch experienced operators remove the tree.
After about three hours, the tree was removed and the site was deemed safe.
