Three bus load of players and fans at least will make the trek as the Ants LLT team take on grand final opponents of the past three seasons University of Newcastle and the men in their first grande final meet Tall Timbers.

The Ants women's tackle team missed out on the party losing the preliminary final to Waratah Mayfield 22-12. In a remarkable season for the club their netball team won the Maitland A-3 minor premiership but lost the grand final to Wests Wildcats

Ants LLT coach Mick Akers, who is also the men's team five-eighth, said only a point separated the Ants teams and their grand final opponents in thrilling major semi-finals two weeks ago and they were expecting similarly close and hard-fought encounters.

The men managed to get home with a 19-18 victory in regular time with a field goal by Shannon Miller. The women went to overtime with Ashlee Harvey's golden point field goal delivering a 7-6 win.

Both games were in wet and muddy conditions and fans and players will be hoping for fine weather on Saturday.

The Dungog Warriors also have their men's Northern Conference team and C-grade Ladies League Tag teams in grand finals on Saturday at Lakeside Oval in Raymond Terrace.

It's a clash of traditional rivals with the Warriors playing Stroud Raiders in both games. The Warriors women won their way through to the grand final with a 10-6 win against Shortland in last weekend's preliminary final.

In the men's preliminary final, the Raiders ensured minor premiers Clarence Town Cobras bowed out in straight sets with a last minute penalty goal to win 24-22 and book their spot against Dungog who had inflicted the Cobras first loss of the season in the major semi-final.

B-grade minor premiers the Morpeth Bulls also unfortunately bowed losing 42-18 to University in the preliminary final.

Akers said the LLT team were chasing their third major-minor premiership double in a row, while for the men it was their first grand final appearance after bowing out in the elimination final last year in their first season.
