In another glimpse ahead to the Australian speedway summer, former Australian champion Rohan Tungate and current Australian champion Max Fricke battled it out in Bell Vue's narrow win against Peterborough.

Pelaw Main's Tungate overcame recent difficulties to lead the scoring for Peterborough collecting 14 points, but Fricke got the better of him in their round clash on his way to scoring 12.

Panthers team boss Carl Johnson said he was delighted to see Tungate return to form.

"It was good to see Rohan back scoring big points as well after a tough time lately," he said.

Meanwhile, Newcastle's former world champion Jason Doyle improved his chances of automatic Speedway Grand Prix qualification with a fifth-placed 12 point performance in the Danish Grand Prix in Vojens.

Doyle trails eighth trails eighth placed Matej Zagar by just five points with two rounds remaining.
