Extreme changes are very much evident with our birds as well as insects.
Last week I spent a day searching for bird life.
They were in big numbers, some pairing up.
One I found was a Grey Fantail. Now this bird usually nests October, never have I seen it nesting this early - and I am referring to our area in the Hunter.
This all makes me think our nesting will be over by late October.
It was a good day with many birds seen and a number photographed.
Two birds of the one species, the Superb Blue Wren, were pairing up.
The male was bringing food to the female.
This is a good start for what looks like being a very interesting few months in this area.
Other birds in numbers were Striated Thornbills, Yellow-faced Honeyeaters, Tree Creepers, Yellow Thornbills, Pardalots, Rufous Whistlers and many other birds including the little Scarlet Honeyeater.
But for me, the best shot of the day was the Varied Sittella.
When I first spotted the bird I thought it was a Tree Creeper as it was zooming around the trunk of the tree very quickly.
It was coming down the trunk instead of going up the tree trunk as Tree Creepers do.
This is a good start for what looks like being a very interesting few months in this area.
The next few weeks I will be searching for subjects in our local area and I hope I can then bring them to our readers.
