Rutherford Ambulance Station will receive an extra ambulance module consisting of an additional transport vehicle and 12 paramedics, who are due to start in December.
The new staff and vehicle will be based at Rutherford Ambulance Station and will operate from the new $3.8 million station currently being constructed at Aberglasslyn Road, which is expected to open by the end of the year.
The extra vehicle will increase resources to provide two day shift crews and an additional afternoon shift crew.
Maitland MP Jenny Aitchison welcomed the announcement.
"This has been a lengthy negotiation with the government," Ms Aitchison said. "I have been advocating to the minister strongly on this issue since we won the fight for a fully public hospital in Maitland.
"This is a real win for our community and I would like to thank all residents of Maitland who have shared their very personal stories of waiting for an ambulance.
"I would like to particularly thank Mr Michael Johnson of Rutherford, who has been advocating for more ambulance resources since before I was elected in March 2015. This win is a great credit to his tenacity and I am so pleased that we have been able to achieve these vital services for our community.
"I would like to thank the Health Services Union and their members for their constant advocacy on this issue.
Liberal member of the NSW Upper House for the Hunter, Taylor Martin said Maitland was one of the fastest growing regions in NSW "and that is why the Liberal Government is future proofing Maitland's paramedic and ambulance needs".
