Jessica Greatorex has pleaded not guilty to manslaughter while her formal partner Timothy Whiteley has also entered a not guilty plea to the charge of murder.
The charges relate to the death of 20-month-old Hayley Rose Banister, Ms Greatorex's daughter, on June 19, 2019.
Hayley was rushed to John Hunter Hospital after police said she suffered "significant injuries" and went into cardiac arrest. But she was unable to be revived.
Mr Whiteley was charged with her murder on August 2, 2018. He was refused bail and remains behind bars.
Ms Greatorex was charged with manslaughter eight days later. She was initially refused bail, but released from custody after spending three nights in jail.
A pre-trial hearing has been listed for March next year.
