But young Stevie Crawley decided to spend hers doing something selfless and thoughtful for other people who are in need.
The East Maitland Public School kindergarten student had more than 35 centimetres of her long blonde hair chopped off in support of the Mark Hughes Foundation and Variety children's charity's Hair with Heart initiative on her sixth birthday on Friday.

Stevie's mum Aleasha Robertson said her daughter, who has been growing her hair since she was about two-years-old, saw videos on YouTube of young cancer patients who had no hair due to going through chemotherapy.
"She said when she cuts her hair she wants to give it to these kids so they can feel pretty like she does," Aleasha said.
So the family had a chat about which charity they could support.
Alesha said they decided on the Mark Hughes Foundation as it is a local charity that helps local people.
She initially aimed to raise $1500 for the Mark Hughes Foundation, but had already raised more than $1650 by the time of the big chop on Friday.
Amy Crush from Platinum Professional Hair Care at Thornton did the honours, cutting Stevie's hair in front of her kindergarten classmates.
The long blonde locks will be donated to Hair with Heart to be turned into a wig for someone who has lost their hair due to a medical condition.

While the big chop ended up being an emotional affair for young Stevie, her parents could not be more proud of her.
"It's just heartwarming," Aleasha said.
"She was only five when she decided to do this.
"She's so compassionate.
"She has such a beautiful, giving heart."
"It's a big thing," Stevie's dad Mark Crawley said.
"I'm so proud of her."
