Some are in the process of building nests, others are showing pairing displays, so what I will include with this article is a general rundown on the birds I have spotted.

Our first subject is the Australian Kestrel.

This one is on a property north of Rutherford.

It has been seen before in the same location.

This year it was in the same spot, and sitting in the same nest hole.

It is too early for it to have chicks but I had a good idea what would happen next - some dead trees on the ground would be the target for them mating.

We positioned the car - this was to be our hide - making sure the light was right, then started the wait.

After about an hour, the male landed on the ground tree, at once the female flew straight to the clump.

Bingo! We got the shots of him passing the skink to the female.

This is normal practice before they mate, not yet, but still working on this pair.

Our next stop was Seaham - a top spot for bird life.

A great number of species has been observed in this area this season, they include Scarlet Honeyeater, thornbills, yellow robins, tree creepers, Varied Silletto, wrens, and numerous other honeyeaters.

We did not get shots of all those birds but certainly a few were recorded.

One of the most interesting species was the Varied Silletto.

When I first spotted it I was convinced it was a tree creeper but this bird had some unusual habits, instead of going up the tree like tree creepers it came down the tree, and very fast. I was lucky to get the shots.

The wrens also provided some nice images - one of the male feeding the female.

The yellow robins provided some nice images - one with the bird tossing the grub before swallowing it.

Other nice images have been on the Myall Lakes with a sea eagle striking a fish.

So it is back to the kestrels shortly and with a bit of luck they will be pairing.
