Maitland City Council aquatics coordinator Suellen Goyne said swimming lessons were available at Maitland and East Maitland pools for ages from six months to 90 and older.
"I can't think of a more important life skill than teaching your child how to survive in water," she said.
"We have lessons all year round. We can run lessons, even for six months old children, all through the year."
Ms Goyne added that it was also valuable for parents to learn CPR so they were equipped in event of an emergency.
