They have spent months perfecting the script, singing and choreography and when the show opens at the Civic Theatre in Newcastle next week they will have completed 13 weeks of rehearsals.
Maitland actors Savannah Geddes, Anaiya Mahony and Jack Norman have secured roles. Savannah will star as Tiger Lilly, Jack as Michael Darling and Anaiya as Brave Girl #1 and Tiger Lily understudy.
Director James Tolhurst said the junior broadway production gave young actors the chance to shine.
"It has been rewritten for a younger cast to perform. It's giving younger performers the opportunity to perform these great roles in shows," he said.
"It means that early on in their performing career they are getting to play those roles that other students, say 10 years ago, wouldn't have had the opportunity to perform.
"Captain Hook would always be played by an adult in a full production, but because the whole cast is under 18 it brings the whole age down and lead roles like that are pretty big because they have to learn all of the vocals for that."
Four actors had to travel to Melbourne in September for flying training to complement their performances.
Imogen Bamback (Peter Pan), Sabine Cook (Wendy Darling), Jasper Coy (John Darling) and Jack Norman (Michael Darling) had flying harnesses fitted and were put through their paces.
Mr Tolhurst said the rehearsal regime and expectation that the cast practised their parts in their own time helped to give them a range of life skills.
He said the theme at rehearsals was 'an actor prepares' and each cast member was expected to act with professionalism at all times.
"It sets them up for a career in the performing arts and it teaches them to learn to work together as a cast," he said.
"More than half of the students I teach won't pursue a career in the performing arts though, but the things we are teaching them will help them in every facet of their life. The discipline we teach goes into the workplace, into the school, and the friendships they are building is very important as well."
There will be two shows on October 10 and 11 at 10.30am and 7pm. On October 12 there are performances at 2pm and 7pm. Tickets are $56 for A reserve, $49 for B reserve and groups of more than 10 are $45 each.
