Bourke, 10, showed why he was recently named NSW Young Rider of the Year winning the 8-10 Cruiser boys title on Saturday and backing up with victory in the 10 boys on Sunday.

After missing out on a coveted No.1 plate for the past two years, Longbottom,12, returned to the top of the podium with victory in the 11-12 Cruiser girls and 12 girls.

Bourke, who started racing at three, said his ultimate goal is to go to the Olympics.

With several state titles already under his belt, the two NSW titles this year follow a second place in the 8-10 Cruiser boys at the Australian titles.

"Unfortunately, I crashed out in the final of the 10 boys," he said.

Longbottom said she was very proud of reaching her goal of regaining her state title.

"I was a bit nervous before the race, but got over that and was able to win," she said.

"I had the state title for three years in a row, I haven't been for the last couple of years, so it was nice to win again."

As for what looks like a big future: "I really want to go to the Olympics one day, go to the world titles and become one of the celebrities in BMX," she said.

While Bourke and Longbottom were the only No.1 plate winners, there were some outstanding performances by Maitland riders over the weekend.

On Saturday there were five podium placings and a further top seven top five finishing. On Sunday there seven podium finishes and a further seven top five placings.

Club president Adam Thomsen said the hard work over the past 12 months by the by the club and Maitland Events had paid dividends.

"We had 3500 to 4000 people attending both days, which is incredible," Thomsen said.

"I think we probably exceeded even our own expectations I think. It has been a lot of hard work but all worth it.

"It's a big boost for the Maitland economy. We had 700 individual competitors many from outside the Hunter and of course their families so just accommodation wise it's big.

"On top of that you have all the other things like food, fuel and the like.

"It's also been a huge event for the community with heaps of people coming out and seeing the racing."

Thomsen said staging a national title was outside the club's scope at the moment but they had earned hosting rights of one of the stages in the national series.
