The awards recognise the outstanding achievements of individuals who work tirelessly to enrich the community through their commitment and service to others.
Each year the awards are presented during Maitland's Australia Day celebrations.
"Maitland is privileged to have so many residents who devote their time to giving back to their local community, and it's crucial that we recognise and celebrate their contribution to our city at this annual event," Mayor Loretta Baker said.
"I encourage you to nominate these individuals if you know of anyone who should be recognised as Citizen of the Year or Young Citizen of the Year."
Council welcomes nominees from a wide variety of areas including education, conservation, culture, environment, health, fundraising , charitable and voluntary services, business, arts, sport, schools and any other area that contributes to the advancement or wellbeing of Maitland.
Achievements which will be recognised include a single outstanding achievement in the last year or numerous achievements over many years.
The judging panel looks for nominations which show results of good citizenship, determination, creativity, enthusiasm, commitment and a demonstrated search for excellence.
