The Glory charged to the Premiers Plate in a superb 2018-19 campaign but were undone on penalties by Sydney FC in the decider at Optus Stadium in May.

Perth will kick off their 2019-20 campaign at HBF Park on Sunday when ex-player Robbie Fowler and his new-look Brisbane Roar come to town.

Ikonomidis said the Roar shouldn't be counting on facing a team still dwelling on its grand final disappointment.

"We analyse the whole year last year not just the grand final," the Socceroo told AAP.

"It was very successful for us. Everyone's come back with refreshed energy and we want to kind of go that one step further this year."

The off-season departures of Matthew Spiranovic, Jason Davidson, Shane Lowry and Scott Neville mean the Glory will be fielding an all-new defence against the Roar.

It will also be the first A-League appearance since last November for Uruguayan striker Bruno Fornaroli, who'll be eager to impress after being frozen out at Melbourne City.

The Roar meanwhile will be keen to begin life under Liverpool legend Fowler in good fashion.

A squad overhaul following the absymal 2018-19 campaign means up to 10 players including new captain Tom Aldred and experienced Irish striker Roy O'Donovan could make their A-League debuts for the Roar.

"Can't wait. I've been counting down the hours," Ikonomidis said about the season opener.

"They're a new team, a new coach so we'll be waiting for them in Perth."
