The Hitmen have a strong squad but came against reigning champs Central Coast Rush last Sunday and fell short in their run chase.
Hunter has two games this Sunday meeting Lake Mac Attack and Newcastle Blasters on the Central Coast.
Playing at Bill Sohier Park in Ourimbah, the Hitmen restricted Central Coast to 7/138 from their 20 overs.
Six Rush batsmen made double figures to keep the score board ticking.
City United pacemen Tim Baker was economical restricting Central Coast batsman to just 17 runs off his four overs, but was unable to get a break-through.
Thornton spinner Dan Willis picked up 2-31 off four and Singleton pace bowler Brendan Nichols took 2-26 off his four.
Norths' Logan Smith collected 2-23 off three overs while his new teammate this Sean Gibson took 1-18 off three.
Raymond Terrace wicketkeeper/batsman Jaymes Thomas and Wests skipper Tom Irwin got Hunter off to a bright start making a run-a-ball 21 before Thomas was out for eight.
Irwin anchored the innings with an excellent 48 off 51 balls including one four and three sixes.
Hunter skipper Josh Trappel looked to be building a good innings but was caught for 14.
The remainder of the batting line-up failed to reach double figures with Smith and Singleton's Jacob Carey the next best contributors with nine each.
Lake Mac Attack are the other unbeaten team to date in the round-robin series accounting for the Blasters by eight wickets with almost five overs to spare.
They reeled in Newcastle's total of 7/101 from 20 overs posting 2/106 off 15.1 overs at Waratah Oval.
The Hitmen have a strong mixture of experience and youth with the Trappel brothers Josh and Matt, Wests batting duo Aaron Mahony and Irwin.
Young stars include Thomas, former Easts bastman Matt Lynch, Kurri Weston speedster Jack Sylvester and Gibson. The bowling stocks are strong with Alex Seamer, Baker, Willis and Nichols joining the youngsters.
