The club was closed at the time the trio, allegedly armed with a firearm, a baseball bat and a sword, approached an employee, who was the only staff member present.
They allegedly attacked the employee before collecting several items and leaving in a car driven by a fourth man.
Strike Force Timbrell was established by State Crime Command's Robbery and Serious Crime squad to investigate the incident.
About 9.15am on Wednesday, a 26-year-old man was taken from a correctional facility at Cessnock to Newcastle Police Station.
