Half of the club's 12 homes games set down for Sundays in a major win for traditional fans.

As predicted, the Knights have been denied a season-opening blockbuster at McDonald Jones Stadium, instead being lumbered with the poor-drawing Warriors in a round one, 2pm clash on Saturday, March 14.

But the club's low-key start at home has been more than compensated elsewhere with six Sunday games, five Saturday's and just one Friday night clash in Newcastle - an April 3 game at 6 pm against the Cowboys in round 4.

In a measure of the strength of the roster and the added drawing power of players such as Kalyn Ponga and Mitchell Pearce, the Knights will feature seven times on Channel Nine, up from four last season.

In a win for the players, the Knights will face just one five day turnaround between matches and will meet grandfinalists Sydney Roosters and Canberra and powerhouse Melbourne just once during the season.

"Overall from our perspective, it's a pretty good result for us I'd have to say," Knights CEO Phil Gardner said.

"We've got a lot of Sunday games that will suit our traditional fans and their families and we have seven free-to-air games which is great for our sponsors so we are certainly very happy from that perspective.

"From the footy side of things, we don't play Melbourne in Melbourne and we only meet the Roosters and Raiders once which is a bonus for us. There is also only one five day turnaround which falls between the Dragons [round 9] and the Roosters [round 10]."

In features of the draw, the Knights will take on South Sydney during the NRL's Magic Round at Suncorp Stadium on Saturday, May 2 while they will host an Anzac Round game against Penrith in round 7 on Sunday, April 26 and an Indigenous Round showdown against the Sharks in round 11 on Sunday, May 24.

The club's tough opening to the season is in stark contrast to last season.

In 2019, the Knights played five of their first seven games at home but frittered away the advantage by winning just two of them.

Next season, they face four road trips in five weeks immediately following the Warriors season opener at home.

All four matches are against teams that finished above them on the ladder last season - Wests Tigers in round 2, Cronulla in round 3, Manly in round 5 and the Raiders in round 6. Sandwiched in between is the Cowboys at home.

The up side is the Raiders clash won't be in Canberra. Just as they did when they faced St George Illawarra in Mudgee last season, the Knights will again head to the bush, this time taking on last season's grandfinalists in the Riverina stronghold of Wagga. While not all the club's draw requests were granted by the NRL, the Knights did get their way with Old Boys Day.

"We asked for it on a Sunday in the final round and we'll be looking forward to hosting the Bulldogs on that day," Gardner said.
