That's the scenario at the Polocrosse Ground at Rutherford this weekend at the annual Hunter Valley Showjumping Club's Spring Championships.
All up there will be 128 riders in action over two days, totalling 630 rounds of jumping.
Unfortunately this year's event will clash with a major jumping event in Victoria in the lead-up to the Australian titles, which has impacted on the size and depth of the competition.
"We'll still have some elite competitors including ex-Olympians such as Dave Cooper, so competition will be tough," club president Sue Middleton said. "We have a number of quality riders coming up from Sydney and the Central Coast.
"But we'll also have young riders, from about 10 years old or so, having a ride over the 65cm jumps and seniors who just want to get on a horse and enjoy the day."
The Hunter is probably better known as an eventing region, but in recent years the showjumping side of things has built up.
"We're becoming an increasingly strong region for showjumping," Ms Middleton said.
"It's a good sport because it's social and the cost isn't exorbitant. You can pick up a thoroughbred horse quite cheaply for maybe a couple of hundred dollars."
An added attraction this year will be some thoroughbred off the track classes.
The Polocrosse Ground is on Anambah Road, Rutherford. Action starts from 3.30am both Saturday and Sunday.
