MAITLAND punters let out cries of joy when Hunter Valley bred Vow and Declare took home the top spot in this year's Melbourne Cup.
Second and third place respectively went to Master of Reality and Prince of Arran.
Crowds flooded pubs and hotels across Maitland to watch the race that stops the nation, and revel in the local win.
Vow and Declare is the first Australian-bred winner of the Melbourne Cup since Shocking in 2009.
He was bred at Scone stud Kitchwin Hills and trained by Danny O'Brien.
The four-year-old gelding was sired by stallion Declaration of War and has already collected more than $1 million in prize money.
