In true Guzman y Gomez tradition, the store on the corner of the New England Highway and Regiment Road, will open with a free burrito day to welcome local residents to the business and introduce them to what the store and its drive-through has on offer.
A company spokesperson said Guzman y Gomez Rutherford will offer free burritos between midday and 7pm, with guests able to add guacamole to any order, free of charge.
Past free burrito days have been extremely popular, with one store serving 5721 burritos in one day.
Guzman y Gomez operates over 131 restaurants and drive-throughs across Australia, Singapore, Japan and soon in the United States, 80 per cent of which are franchised. The opening of the Rutherford store now marks the company's 118th store in Australia.
"We saw potential in Rutherford," the spokesperson said. "The entire area is booming and we have seen real growth in our restaurants across this region so it was a no-brainer. The Stockland Green Hills store is going really well.
"With the recent introduction of a 100 per cent Clean Food menu, an achievement three years in the making, Maitland residents have been enjoying Mexican food, free of additives, preservatives, added colours, and artificial flavours.
