About 120 people attended the event at Easts Leisure and Golf Club where they heard Ms Morrissey interviewed by fellow guest, NBN News anchor Natasha Beyersdorf.
Di is just beautiful, so is Natasha.
- Maitland Lantern Club president Pauline Hogg
Ms Morrissey spoke about her life in Wingham, where she runs her own newspaper, and the many books she has written about Australian stories over the years.
The initiative came about thanks to RIDBC Hunter coordinator Darren Parmenter, who met Ms Morrissey and subsequently invited her to see the work that the institute was doing.
Maitland Lantern Club president Pauline Hogg said the lunch was a great success, raising roughly $2500 for the institute.
She said the interview was very engaging and was very much enjoyed by the attendees.
"She's a lovely lady, very willing," Ms Hogg said.
"Di is just beautiful, so is Natasha."
