And sites like One Day Closer to Rain (Drought) - Rural Cottage Crafts and #buyfromthebush are giving regional sellers the chance to show off their wares to a wider audience.

Locally-made handbags, children's clothing, jewellery, candles and serving boards are just a few of the things that are on offer.

Some of the sellers are farmers who are trying to turn a hobby into an income stream they can use to help keep food on the table and feed their animals.

Rural Cottage Crafts founder Cassandra McLaren, who also runs the popular One Day Closer to Rain page, said the public group started last month and already had 125,000 members.

"It's making a difference financially and mentally at a time when people didn't know what they were going to do next or who they were going to turn to - they were pretty much on the edge of giving up and looking at throwing in the towel," she said.

"For those who are farmers or have been directly affected by the drought it is having a real impact. It is the difference between paying bills, or being able to put food on the table or pay to feed the animals or put water in their tank. They can suddenly do that in a time when they couldn't see when they would next be able to do that."

Ms McLaren said there had already been overseas buyers from New Zealand, England, France and the United States of America.

"The creativity that is out there is amazing, there is a lot of hidden talents that have been brought forward because of the page," she said.

"When you support regional small businesses the money isn't going to big businesses, or overseas. That money helps that family, it helps the community they live in because it increases the money that is being spent in that whole community."

The state government has recently launched a Buy Regional webpage.
