Morpeth Chapel Jazz Committee Chair John Saunders said the 2020 event will be held in May and it's hoped to draw a huge crowd over the two days.
"This is a community event supported by the local business community and members of the Catholic, Anglican and Uniting Churches," Mr Saunders said.
"One of the highlights of the weekend is the Sunday afternoon Schools Jazz Spectacular featuring budding musicians and singers from The Hunter Valley Grammar School Swing Band and their Stage Band.
"They will be followed up with performances by the Newcastle Grammar Brazz Razoo and the Hunter School of Performing Arts Show Band," he said.
"These young budding musicians and singers, supported by their teachers are giving their time freely," Mr Saunders said.
"Judging from the positive and enthusiastic feedback to the spectacular in previous years we believe these students need to be recognised and encouraged in showcasing their talents more widely.
The event will kick off on Friday night, May 15 and conclude on the afternoon of Sunday, May 17. It will be held in the grounds of the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in George Street.
Morpeth ChapelJazz is a joint venture between the three churches in Morpeth.
The festival has its roots in 1988 when local businesses joined together to establish a small jazz festival for Morpeth's bicentenary year.
The festival soon acquired a life of its own and by 2000 had developed into a major event. By 2004 insurance and logistics had made the festival unmanageable and it was cancelled. But in 2009 the Catholic, Anglican and Uniting churches revived the once-great event and invited the musicians into the hallowed buildings.
The aim of the event is to present traditional jazz to jazz lovers and their families and provide an enjoyable community experience. Hundreds of people have travelled to Morpeth for the event in previous years from as far as Sydney, Coffs Harbour and Brisbane.
