The Muswellbrook Local Art Awards for 2019 is currently showing through until January 12 at Muswellbrook Regional Arts Centre.
Awards are given to Painting, Works on Paper, Sculpture, Photography and Youth. Visit this exhibition to gain a greater understanding and sense of the Muswellbrook, Singleton and Upper Hunter shire communities.

The Christmas Makers Markets at Cessnock Regional Art Gallery ends Saturday December 21 (10am to 4pm). Artists from around the Cessnock region have come together to present affordable ceramics, paintings, textiles and works on paper with Christmas in mind. Meet some of the artists when you visit.
The Makers Studio Central Coast group exhibition For the love of Country is on now at Gloucester Gallery until December 29. Including a wide variety of paintings, printmaking, sculpture and drawings that depict Australian landscape and wildlife. Exhibiting artist, Therese Gabriel-Wilkins will be giving a talk about the processes she has used to create her works from 11am both Saturday and Sunday, this weekend.
Currently in the Project Space at Maitland Regional Art Gallery is Newcastle-based artist Edward Milan's Learning to Speak sculptural installation.
Made from found wood and incorporating hand-carved letters, Milan's work is playful while offering a sense of nostalgia.
Also showing is Maitland artist Teresa Purnell's SnakeAbout natural history illustration exhibition. Purnell's drawings reveal the beauty of this much misunderstood reptile. Her painstakingly accurate watercolours highlight not only the identifying features but also display the skills of this talented artist.
At Finite Gallery, Caves Beach the third Patchwork exhibition is being held until January 27.
Each painting measures 6 x 6 inches, visitors are encouraged to purchase multiple paintings to create their own unique larger 'patchwork' artwork. With an open theme, there is an eclectic mix of genres to suit all tastes.
