Representatives from the Blacks and church met on Friday to discuss conditions of a long-term facility for Marcellin Park.
"It was a very positive meeting from both parties," Maitland Rugby Club president Pat Howard said.
"Our priority is to build our future at Marcellin and it was clear the Maitland/Newcastle Dicoese wants Maitland Rugby Club to stay at Marcellin Park.
"Obviously that needs to go through a few different processes but it really is a matter of coming together and coming up with a solution that is beneficial to both parties."
Howard said the club committee would be seeking direction from members at a special general meeting on Wednesday, January 29 at Marcellin Part at 6.30pm.
"We will be discussing all options for Maitland Rugby Club because we need to secure our future," Howard said.
"Our number one priority is to do that at Marcellin Park but we do need to cover all bases and put all the options forward and discuss those just in case we do need to move."
