McDonald's Book store
Popular children's author Chris Collin will be in Maitland on Wednesday, January 15 for a book signing and to entertain young readers. Not just that but Mr Collin will come in full garb, dressed as the Funky Chicken, his best known book character. He has written a number of best sellers including Funky Chicken: A Bushy Tale of Crocs and Chooks, A Bug Called Doug and Funky Chicken: Chooks in Space. He has also turned them into an audio visual format, for kids less inclined to read. He will be in store from 10.30am to noon, and will also appear at Maitland Library from 2.30pm to 3.30pm .
DIVE IN CINEMA
East Maitland Pool
The city's first dive in cinema will be held at East Maitland Aquatic Centre on Friday, and feature box office hit Aquaman. Tickets, in pool and out of the pool, will be available for $10 and $5 respectively. Gates open at 6pm, with the movie starting at 8pm. Along with the movie, there will also be a silent disco, food trucks and lawn games, as well as free swim time for all tickets holders before the movie starts. There will also be two more dive in cinemas on January 17 and 24.
STREET EATS
RH Taylor Reserve
Street Eats Get Togethers will return to RH Taylor Reserve in Lorn on Sunday, January 12. The family friendly event will feature live music and food trucks. The event will run from 4pm to 8pm.
LOCK AND KEY
Maitland Gaol
Maitland Gaol is offering adults at children's prices on all guided tours and has unique activities for the kids during the throughout the summer school holidays. The kids will be able to enjoy 'Tattoo Tales' which includes a guided tour through the site. Afterwards they'll delve into the work of prison tattoos and what these symbols represent. Tattoo Tales will run on January 9, 16 and 23 at 11am. The cost is $10 per child and $5 per accompanying adult. For details on tours and activities visit maitlandgaol.com.au.
FREE ART SUNDAYS
MRAG
Every Sunday families are invited to drop into the art gallery for free art activities inspired by the exhibitions on display. The activities include code breakers, activity sheets, dance, comics, yoga, and more! The sessions run from 11am to 1pm.
FARM GATE STALL
Phoenix Park Farm
Set among vegetable plots, a chicken run and the orchard at Phoenix Park Farm on Saturday from 8am to 11.30am, the Coffee Coop will be serving delicious fresh espresso and treats made from produce grown on the farm. The farm gate stall will also be operating selling a range of seasonal organically grown veges.
