Fricke, with 71 points, won by nine points from a fast-finishing Jack Holder who collected 20 of a possible 21 points in winning the final leg at Gillman on Saturday night to finish the series with 62 points.

The Hunter's 2018 champion Rohan Tungate was third overall finishing on 59 points, collecting third place in the Gillman final.

"It's always such a big week.I went into the final round with a good lead so had to ride smart to get the points I needed to secure the win," Fricke posted.

"Consistency is the key and I made the podium each round with two wins, a second and third which I'm pretty happy with.It's been a really good series with some great racing by all the boys on some very well prepared tracks."

Former world and five-times Australian champion Chris Holder was fourth on 57 points, collecting an all-important spot in the World Speedway GP qualifiers.

Heddon Greta's Josh Pickering had a great final leg making the final and collecting 13 points to jump into seventh overall on 38 points, one clear of Newcastle's 2017 Aussie champion Sam Masters, who had a delayed start in preparations for the Australian season.

Fricke went into the final leg with a commanding 11-point lead and only disaster in the heats could have prevented him from claiming back-to-back titles.

But a model of consistency over the past two seasons, Fricke made his fourth of four finals to finish second behind Jack Holder to add to his wins at Undera and Mildura and his third at Albury behind Tungate.

"It's really cool. I just wanted to come here, be consistent, pick up points wherever I could and hopefully make it back-to-back titles. We have achieved that now," Fricke told SpeedwayGP.com

"I wasn't doing anything silly. I knew I had a good lead, so it was really nice to know I could come away with it and relax for the rest of the night.

"It's nice to put my name down as a back-to-back champion with all the names that are on the trophy. Chris (Holder) is some pretty good company to win back-to-back titles with.

"I am over the moon and can't thank everyone enough - all the track staff from all the rounds we have been to, the boys who have been helping me and all my sponsors.

"It has been a real team effort this week and it's a hard week for everyone. It's nice that it's all wrapped up now and I can relax a little."

It's been a huge year for Fricke who won and defended the Australian title and qualified for the 2020 World Speedway GP series after several strong starts in 2019.
