"The purpose of this reference group is to invite community members to participate in providing feedback and suggestions in relation to the services offered and appropriateness of our centre," Elizabeth Murphy-May, Community Engagement Officer, said.
"It's important that the community has a role to play in shaping the future of the service so that the best outcomes can be achieved for young people."
An information session will be held for those who may be interested in joining the group in January at the headspace service.
"We are particularly interested in hearing from people who have experience in coming to the centre, perhaps as a parent or friend, and those who are passionate about young people and mental health," Ms Murphy-May said.
"We face mental health as a whole community- we know it impacts on families and so we want to connect with them to strengthen our collective response to youth mental health," she said.
Community members interested in finding out more about the reference group are welcome to attend headspace Maitland, 73 Elgin St, from 4:30-5:30pm on Monday, January 20.
Participants are encouraged to register their attendance by contacting headspacemaitland@samaritans.org.au or phoning 4931 1000.
