Breanna Murrell, Billie-Jo Cresswell and Amy Newton have signed up to participate in the quest and there could be more young women taking part with entries open until 5pm on January 24.

Ms Murrell, 24, has recently returned from working with thorougbred horses in Canada and is continuing her passion for the equine industry in the Maitland area.

Ms Cresswell, 20, has decided to enter the quest again this year after competing in the 2019 competition. She is working towards her dream of working on a cattle station in the outback.

Ms Newton, 19, is about to start studying to become a teacher's aid and hopes to one day become a teacher to guide the city's students in their educational pursuits.

Maitland Showgirl coordinator Margaret Enright urged young women between 18 and 24 to fill out an entry form and take part.

"It's a great experience, they always learn a lot and all of the girls become such great friends," she said.

The program helps entrants to build their confidence, improve their networking skills and develop their ability to speak in public.

The winner is announced at the official opening of Maitland Show on February 14 and there will be a runner up and third place sash.

The winner will go on to be sashed as Miss Maitland, which is a youth ambassador role for the city, and compete at the zone finals in 2021 for a place in the state final of The Land Sydney Royal Showgirl Competition.

Being Miss Maitland will involve attending official functions such as the Anzac Day service in Maitland Park and the Australia Day award celebrations.

2019 Maitland Showgirl and Miss Maitland Tamieka Lupinski said her year in the role has been extremely fulfilling. She entered the quest to improve her confidence and push herself out of her comfort zone.

"It pushes you, it challenges you, it shows you that you can achieve things," she said.

"It's about being part of the community where you live and being part of what happens."
