For those unfamiliar with the renowned cook, Liaw is a weekly columnist for The Sydney Morning Herald, The Age and Sunday Life magazine, has authored six cookbooks and his SBS television series Destination Flavour, has seen him travel through Australia, New Zealand, Japan, Scandinavia, China and Singapore.
The series also won the 2016 AACTA award for Best Lifestyle Television program.
With over 700,000 followers on social media, Liaw's presence has been ranked as the most influential in the Australian food industry. He is also UNICEF Australia's National Ambassador for Nutrition.
Liaw said the events at the start of this year have highlighted just how important regional communities and centres are to Australia, and this year's Maitland Taste couldn't come at a better time to put that into perspective.
"Taste is a wonderful festival, and a much needed opportunity for producers, restaurants, home cooks and the whole community to show that what we eat and drink is what brings us together," he said.
"Whether it's a beer at the pub, a bottle of wine and a good meal with friends, or a simple weeknight dinner, life happens around food."
In addition to appearances from Liaw, who will take to the Flavour Stage several times during the weekend, festival goers will be treated to a diverse program of activities featuring cooking and gardening demonstrations, live art, produce markets, and lots for the kids.
Maitland City Council events officer Tori Evans said council was over the moon to have Liaw at Maitland Taste this year.
"His food is quite obviously world class and he has a fantastic reputation in the industry," Ms Evans said. "I think he will be a great addition to the festival, and I encourage everyone to come along and learn from one of the best."
Maitland Taste runs from 10am until 3pm on March 14 and 15. For more about the festival go to maitlandtaste.com.au
