A ball struck Abel in the eye while he was in 82 and left him with blood coming from the wound. Abel was cleared of structural damage but will have to undergo tests this week before cleared to play.

Kurri Weston and Northern Suburbs both won on the weekend, the first step in their quest to make the semi-finals.

North's six-wicket win against Thornton lifted them to third on the table equal on 40 points with Eastern Suburbs (fourth) and Kurri Weston.

Kurri Weston posted 252 against Tenambit Morpeth with Abel retiring hurt on 82 and Sam Dalibozek making a rapid-fire 49 at the end.

The Bulls batted out their overs to make 9/205 but after a slow start were always behind the required run rate.

Easts suffered a 116-run loss to City United and now must claim a win in one of their last two games to claim a semi-finals spot. They host Western Suburbs in next round's two-day fixture before a final round fixture also at home against Thornton.

Norths are firming in calculations to claim one of the two spots still up for grabs, with an away game against bottom side Tenambit Morpeth in the final round.

Raymond Terrace have the toughest run home facing the top-two sides City United and Wests in their final two games.

Norths skipper Lincoln Mills said Terrace started slowly and while they didn't lose wickets they were struggling to score with the outfield slow and not given value for shots.

"We were able to build a lot of pressure. It was a really disciplined bowling by our young bowling line up. We bowled in good position and didn't stray from our plan," Mills said.

"Brad Christensen got a late call-up after Mitch Field withdrew with a virus and he ended up with 0-5 off seven overs, he didn't bowl a bad ball and they just couldn't get him away.

"Mike Wilson is really relishing his new role as a middle-order bowler for us and he was 2-10 off his 10 overs. Again it was disciplined bowling and they had to take the risks.

"They batted their 50 overs and to keep them to 114 runs was a fantastic bowling effort and set us up for the win."

Mills made 44 and Wilson 25 to give Norths a quick start and Ben Sugden (14) and Sean Gibson (22 not out) guided Norths to victory.

"We got off to really quick start, about 70 runs off 15 overs and then lost three quick wickets. The game plan from there for Benny Sugden and Sean Gibson was no more wickets, you've got plenty of time just get us home," Mills said.

"There's two games to go. That's the focus now. We're not really talking about the table. It's about playing good cricket each week and enjoying ourselves.

"And we are, the vibe in the team is very good."
