The Levee women's clothing business is currently holding a closing down sale with stock at significantly reduced prices.
Dressed on High owner Michelle Walton said she was due to hand over the keys at the end of next month, but expected all the stock to be gone before then.
It comes after Newcastle Permanent confirmed its Maitland branch in The Levee would close on March 13, children's clothing store Blue's Child finished up last week, takeaway shop Maitland Tuckerbox closed quietly a few weeks ago and shoe store Ziera Shoes shut down at the end of last year.
It's happening everywhere. It's definitely not just a Maitland thing.
- Michelle Walton
Dressed on High has been in Ms Walton's hands for several years. Her mother ran the store for 20 years and a dress shop has occupied the space for 60 years.
Ms Walton said sales had been slowly dropping, but didn't believe the retail spending issue was unique to Maitland.
"It's happening everywhere," she said. "It's definitely not just a Maitland thing.
"Everyone is doing it tough."
It was revealed this week that homeware chain Ishka, which has a store at Stockland Green Hills, had collapsed into administration.
Collette by Collette Hayman and Jeans West have also gone into administration but will continue to operate as normal while buyers for the businesses are sought.
Harris Scarfe closed its Green Hills store after the organisation recently went into receivership, national music and entertainment chain Sanity closed both its Green Hills and Maitland stores last month and Curious Planet (formerly Australian Geographic) has shut down at Green Hills as well after parent company the Co-op Bookshop went into administration. Women's fashion business Bardot has also recently gone under.
Maitland Business Chamber is planning to hold a retail forum in April to delve into the issue and offer local retailers a chance to discuss their situation.
