Tara Andrews admitted the Jets were still "licking our wounds" after a club-worst loss but described a final-round clash with Adelaide on Thursday night which will determine the wooden spoon as the perfect opportunity to finish the season "the Newcastle way".

As a senior player with almost 100 W-League appearances for the Jets, Andrews has been through the club's highs and lows, including the 7-0 rout at the hands of Melbourne Victory on Sunday.
The result stirred plenty of emotion, which the Jets striker said Newcastle must use as motivation in Adelaide.
"It's never nice losing 7-0 in any competition and it was pretty disappointing and embarrassing to have a home crowd here watching us and losing by that much," Andrews said.
"But we have to move on and we have to look to the next game. We can beat Adelaide and we just have to focus on that now."
The last-placed Reds host Newcastle, who are eighth with seven points, at Marsden Sports Complex.
Adelaide, on four points, have a better goal difference than the Jets and will hand their round-14 counterparts the wooden spoon with a win.
Andrews was on board when the Jets finished last twice before. That was in 2009 when they registered just two points then again in 2013-14 in a season where they collected only one point.
It is not how the ultra-competitive 25-year-old wanted to finish a campaign that started with so much promise.
Without any big-name signings nor imports, the Jets opened their season with an historic 1-1 draw against now unbeaten minor premiers Melbourne City. No other team has taken a point off City.
"Considering the team we have with no internationals and a young, local team, we've lost most games by one goal or not by much, so I think the loss was just out of the ordinary and it's not going to happen again for a long time, or ever hopefully, for the Jets," Andrews said.
"It was just a little bump in the road for us ... We all know that feeling now and we don't ever want to feel like that again and everyone is upset and angry about it, so we're going to take that fuel and use it in this game and we're going to do everything we can to get the win against Adelaide."
Newcastle take some confidence into the clash knowing they were dominant in a 2-0 win over the Reds on February 1.
"We just have to make sure that we do all of the right things, that we go into our battles and win those battles and we're aggressive out on the field," Andrews said.
"The Newcastle way is to fight hard. We might not always have the best team but we always fight hard and that was just missing against Melbourne Victory, so hopefully we bring that back for this one."
Co-captain and defensive midfielder Clare Wheeler returns after missing the Victory demolition through injury.
"She's a good leader on the field and she tackles hard and we all feed off that, so not having her there was really big for us," Andrews said. "She'll bring us some confidence."
The highest Newcastle can finish is seventh with 10 points.
The game is at 7.30pm.
