A MAN accused of murdering a 20-month-old girl at Tarro in 2018 and the girl's mother, who is accused of gross criminal negligence by failing to seek assistance for the toddler before she died, will face separate trials in different jurisdictions.

The former couple had been slated to be tried together in the NSW Supreme Court, but lawyers for the girl's mother successfully applied to sever the trials and have the woman's manslaughter charge remitted back to the NSW District Court. The girl died on June 19, 2018, after suffering numerous serious injuries, including facial, head, and torso bruising, abrasions, and lacerations, broken ribs, a collapsed lung, and internal bleeding.
Timothy Whiteley, the ex-partner of the girl's mother, has been charged with murder over the girl's death at a home in Tarro.
He will appear in Sydney Supreme Court on Friday to get a trial date.
The girl's mother will next appear in Newcastle District Court on March 26 to get a trial date.
