Maitland and District Cricket Association secretary Josh Moxey confirmed the decision late yesterday afternoon after a marathon meeting of delegates.

Delegates considered their decision over two days, but in the end opted not to declare a major premiership for 2019/20.

"It was a very tough decision and you could argue either way, but we needed to make a decision in the end and I think it is the right one," Moxey said.

"There was no precedent, if finals are cancelled because of rain or the weather for some reason then the title would have gone to the team which finished highest on the ladder.

"But this was completely different in the sense that the competition itself was cancelled, in the junior and grade competitions on the final was to be played but in the one-day competition there was two weeks to go.

"In the end I think it's important that both the junior and senior competitions are on the same page and both committees have decided to not have a major title.

"Port Stephens, my club, was affected by the decision. We were second grade minor premiers, but I think the consensus among us was that it would have been hollow to be awarded the major premiership in this manner.

"We don't play for money or anything like that, in the end it is about celebrating something you achieved as a team and that wasn't there."

Minor premierships remain in place with Western Suburbs taking out the first grade title.

Moxey congratulated the senior and junior committees and office holders for their efforts during one of a momentous seasons.

"Heat, smoke, rain and then coranavirus we had it all," he said.
