Council staff are proposing an investigation into the suitability of Weblands Street Reserve as a district sportsground.
"Findings have identified that the western sector has the lowest provision of sporting grounds and ovals compared to the rest of the LGA," a report said.
"The current supply of sporting grounds and ovals is not meeting the requirements of the current or future population growth the western sector is to experience.
"The findings have identified the need to provide a further district sportsground site in the short term to service our current population.
"A district sportsground site is one that includes multiuse double playing fields, courts and supporting infrastructure such as amenities and car parking."
Originally, the former Anambah Landfill site was proposed as a potential site for the new sports facility but council investigations found it is unsuitable.
Instead council officers are proposing investigating Weblands Street Reserve as an alternative.
"It is expected that the funds to complete the ... investigations detailed in this report would be funded through the budget allocation of $62,4496 available for the site," the report read.
"Council will be informed of the outcome of the investigations with a report back."
