Formosa has rarely made the trip to Tamworth in recent years but he gained an invite from local trainer Jarred Hetherington to steer some his top hopes on the transferred Narrabri carnival of cups meeting.
He will drive odds-on favourite Night Lights in the first, Bettor Getta Lover in race two, Unico Enchantress in the Santos Cup and Padrisimo in the John Dean Memorial for Hetherington. He also has also Nulkaba trainer Clayton Harmey's Kudos Bert in the Narrabri Cup and Nishabro for Jake Mitchell in the Ladyship Pace.
"The one in the first race is first-up from New Zealand and he's got a good opinion of it," Formosa said.
"Hopefully she can get the cash and there's quite a few good chances there."
Formosa had a double at Newcastle with Ultimate Force and the Chris Bourke-trained Que Sera.
Ultimate Force, trained by Formosa, was last when the field settled in race three. Formosa called on the four-year-old to sprint around the field past the post the first time to sit outside the leader. The $12 chance then showed toughness to hold out odds-on favourite Corbaux by 1.3 metres for a third career win in eight starts.
"He's a pretty smart horse," Formosa said. "I've had him since he was one and he's been a bit of a headache to get to the races but he's starting to put it all together."
Que Sera ($13) sat behind the leader from gate one and found the winning run late.
Morisset's Mark Callaghan had winning drives on Popstaromar (Margot Lennox) and Mr Blue Heeler (Jason Cook) and a training victory with Laceys Lad, which Jack Callaghan drove.
