The move is part of council's recently updated Hardship Policy. Changes to the policy mean ratepayers can apply to defer the next two quarterly rate instalments and request a payment plan. The policy has been expanded to incorporate business rate payers for the first time.
In addition, Council has suspended interest charges on outstanding rates for six months and suspended all current debt collection to ease the burden on vulnerable community members.
"We want our community to know that we are here to support them through these difficult circumstances and we don't want the arrival of the next rates instalment to be cause for concern," General Manager David Evans said.
Quarterly instalment notices for 4th quarter rates will be landing in letterboxes this week, but those facing hardship should call Council on 4934 9700.
