As NSW Health Infrastructure have done previously with both the maternity and paediatrics areas, information on the Emergency Department came with a video from key hospital staff talking about the new set-up and what the community can look forward to in the $470 million facility.
One of the most notable aspects of the Emergency Department is that serious efforts have gone into keeping the Emergency Department separate from general hospital admissions to allow for speedier access.
The helipad will be directly overhead to allow for speedier emergency access and efficiency when transporting patients to and from the new Maitland Hospital.
There will also be a new road constructed to create a separate vehicle entry point solely for the use of ambulances and emergency vehicles.
The Emergency Department itself has been designed in consultation with industry experts and staff to be as user friendly and contemporary as possible.
It will be significantly larger than the old hospital Emergency Department, with more spaces and additional resuscitation bays.

Other features include an Emergency Short Stay Unit (ESSU), and a quieter treatment area for those who require longer assessment and treatment times but do not require admission to an inpatient unit.
An interview room will be available close to the resuscitation bay to provide more privacy for the families of patients for discussions with clinical staff.
An internal decontamination shower is included in the design of the new facility - this is a shift from the old hospital where the shower is currently located outside of the Emergency Department.
The hospital will provide a wider range of services overall including emergency care, chemotherapy chairs, surgical services, critical care, maternity services, paediatric care, cardiac catherisation, inpatient beds, mental health, palliative care, outpatient clinics and dental. Car parking for patients, staff and visitors is also a priority.
The new Maitland Hospital Development Project Team is showcasing the new hospital's services through a series of videos.
The Emergency Department video follows the release of the Maternity Services video in December 2019 and the Paediatrics video in February 2020.
