The work will be done by Transport for NSW and will include replacing of hand rails and general maintenance.
The work will take place between 7pm and 5am from Sunday to Thursday, and be ongoing until late July, weather permitting.
During this time there will be some minor distractions to traffic.
Temporary traffic changes include a single lane closure and a 40km/h speed limit in place which may affect travel times. Pedestrian access will be temporarily obstructed during work hours and a detour will be in place to direct pedestrians and cyclists safely around the work zone.
Work also started on Monday on footpath replacement on Church Street, from Railway Street to Pender Place on the eastern side.
The work is expected to take 12 weeks.
Work will take place from 7am to 5pm on weekdays, and there may also be some work on Saturdays. Traffic control will be in place for the duration of the work and the south bound parking lane (on the city block where the crew is working) will be closed on days of work and unavailable for parking.
