But Heddon Greta Drive-In is back in business as of tonight, and owner Scott Seddon can't mask his excitement.

"Blacktown, Dubbo and us," he said. "We're all that's left. And wouldn't you know it, I decided at 11 o'clock that we'd go ahead, and by 11.10 it was raining. Typical.

"We're kicking of with Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle at 6pm - it only arrived for us today - and then we'll have Bloodshot with Vin Diesel from 8.15," he said.

Seddon is coming back after an eight-week shutdown, but was surprised that his phone kept ringing.

"Funny thing was a lot of the time it was from music promoters asking if I'd be interested in holding live music here," he said. "And they weren't small time promoters, some of the bands are quite well known."

So, is he considering a change of business model to incorporate music?

"We'll see ... they've been pretty creative in the United States with what they're using drive-in venues for - high school graduations, church services, that sort of thing. So maybe music is a possibility, I'm not sure.

"But for now I just want to get the movies going again. That's all I'm worried about.

"The difficulty for us is that there aren't new movies for us to show right now."

Due to COVID-19 restrictions, he will only allow a maximum of 200 cars in - "our record was 747 cars for Titanic in 1998" - with a car space on either side of all cars.

"The two sessions are separate, with all cars leaving between sessions," he said. "We'd like people to stay in the vehicle where possible, contactless payment, the inside and outside dining area will be closed with takeaway food only.

"We'll be adhering to the social distancing regulations."

And what sort of crowd is he expecting?

"No idea, this has all happened pretty quickly, but I just want to show movies again.

"I think people have exhausted their catalogue of streaming services. This is about helping them to get out of the house again ... and getting my doughnut machine back in operation."
