Here's a few things to consider:
DOUBLE DEMERITS: Double demerits will be in place from Friday through to Monday across NSW and the Australian Capital Territory. Police will targeting speed and distracted drivers as holidaymakers hit the roads. As this is the first long weekend since coronavirus restrictions were eased, police have warned drivers to expect traffic to be heavier. Officers will target motorists for speeding, seatbelt offences and using their mobile phones. Motorists who are caught using their phones behind the wheel could be hit with a maximum 10 demerit points and a $344 fine.
TRAINS: Trackworks mean that from Saturday to Monday trains between Dungog and Newcastle, and Scone and Newcastle will be affected. This will include the Maitland services. Trains between Newcastle and Sydney will also be affected. Buses will be used to replace some services. Check Transportnsw info for more information.
IN MAITLAND: Local libraries will be open on Saturday only from 9am to 1pm - these include Maitland, East Maitland, Thornton and Rutherford - but social distancing must be followed.
Maitland Regional Art Gallery will be open Saturday and Sunday from 10am to 5pm. It will be closed on Monday.
Maitland Gaol will be open all weekend. With both the gaol and art gallery, it is advised that you book ahead, which can be done online.
The Visitor Information Centre will be open all weekend.
Outdoor spaces, including Maitland Park, are open but again, social distancing is required. Council rangers will be patrolling to ensure this.
All shops, cafes and galleries in Morpeth are now open.
POKOLBIN: Bookings are high in the vineyards this weekend, with accommodation places largely full and big number expected. While cellar doors are again open, social distancing requirements are in place and it is advised to phone cellar doors to see what is available.
