With the start of the delayed season just weeks away, the Maitland Saints AFL Club were devastated when its clubhouse was ransacked, its new-season uniforms stolen and thousands of dollars' worth of chemicals required for COVIDSafe operations dumped onto the floor last week.
The vandalised items included products purchased to keep players' and officials' hands sanitised during training and competition, and prevent the spread of COVID-19.
However, a helping hand came from Member for Maitland Jenny Aitchison who visited the Saints during a training session this week and delivered hand sanitiser to replace the destroyed bottles.
"I was pleased to be able to give the Saints something to help towards keeping players and officials safe," Ms Aitchison said.
"People should remain vigilant about hand washing and social distancing to stop the transmission of COVID-19 and seasonal influenza."
The Saints have returned to training in line with social distancing requirements under the Public Health Orders.
The bottles were provided by NSW Health as part of the annual campaign to encourage better hand hygiene practises to reduce the incidence of influenza.
