The Draft Destination Management Plan DMP) identifies a range of actions which, if realised, will see the city transform into a 'hero' destination in NSW.

The draft plan aims to address the community's wish for Maitland to be seen as a desirable place to live, an easy place to work, a welcoming place to visit and a wise place to invest.

It also offers a range of opportunities for consideration and implementation over the next 10 years.

Information presented in the draft plan has been developed to reflect more than 1100 ideas and suggestions collected during a six month engagement period in 2019.

The draft plan also has linkages with a number of other regional and state plans and strategies, including the NSW Government's Statewide DMP, which identifies Maitland as a potential future hero destination.

The Draft Maitland DMP will be the key driver to guide the realisation of this potential.

The purpose of the draft plan is to provide a 10 year plan with a set of core strategic directions and the necessary actions for implementation in the short, medium and long term, a council report said.

Central to the Draft DMP are five priority hubs and seven key themes.

The five priority hubs, Morpeth, Central Maitland, Maitland Gaol, Walka Water Works and Tocal, already attract visitors, have established product and/or experiences, have potential for further development of products and/or experiences, provide a unique selling point among target markets and point of difference from competitors, have a greater likelihood of increasing visitation to Maitland and therefore provide wider economic benefits in the short term, the report said.

Maitland residents are being asked to comment the draft plan by making an online submission through Maitland City Council's website or emailing yoursay@maitland.nsw.gov.au
