Wood, 36, pulled off a forward flip after racing to the Maitland bench to receive the applause of his teammates and coaching staff.
"I don't know how many more of those I've got in me," Wood smiled after the match which sprang into life after a dour first-half in which both teams shut down any room for attack.
"I haven't done it in about two years, but I thought nah I'm doing it why not .
"The goals today weren't the prettiest and the football in general today wasn't the prettiest but we took our opportunities.
"The field was a bit bumpy and the hot conditions were a lot different to what it has been the last few weeks so there were plenty of us blowing a bit at the end.
"In those conditions it's important to just keep on grinding, keep pushing until to get the right positions and those runs will eventually be rewarded."
Wood's strike partner Braedyn Crowley also cashed in with a single and there was a huge cheer when Sam Webb scored the final goal of the day smashing the ball past the keeper after a cross across the box to where he made a good run.
Webb, who arrived at Maitland this year from Lakes, came off the bench late and made the most of his chance from 20 metres out.
It was a move which bookmarked the opening goal, a sublime effort involving a wonderful cross by Jimmy Thompson to Wood after Crowley drew the defence away with a diversionary run.
"Those sort of plays we've definitely got to get happening a lot more," Wood said.
"They are the type of thing you work on in training, those one-two passes that can absolutely tear teams apart.
"When we do that with that sort of goal we are almost unstoppable.
"It was a class goal and it was good to see a nice quick play from Jimmy playing his part as well."
While the first and last goals were the picks, the three in between were opportunist efforts, but all importantly opportunist efforts taken clinically.
In his last season of footy, Wood said the combinations were coming together with Crowley and Thompson and it was good to cash in when the chances came his way.
"In the end though, I would be just as happy to lead the assists as the goal scoring and I think Crowls has the same attitude," Wood said.
"After winning the minor premiership last year but missing out on the grand final, we are all really driven to get the double this year, to claim both titles.
"It's going to be my last year, I'm going to retire at the end of this season, so I'm willing to do whatever is needed form me to get that grand final win."
The win takes Maitland to third place on the table equal on six points from two wins with Broadmeadow who had a 1-0 loss to unbeaten competition leaders Edgeworth on 12 points with four wins from four games.
In other games on Sunday, Weston were held to a 1-all draw at Adamstown, Charletown Azzurri and Lake Macquarie played out a 1-all draw. On Saturday, Lambton had to settle for a 2-all draw at home against Newcastle Olympic.
The Magpies are back in action against Weston at Rockwell Automation Park on Wednesday night in the local derby catch-up from last Sunday.
Maitland is then away to Newcastle Olympic next Saturday, while Weston host Azzurri next Sunday.
