MAITLAND's much-loved Bitter and Twisted Boutique Beer Festival has been cancelled amid concerns over the spread of coronavirus (COVID-19).
A statement from Maitland City Council said the decision came as the result of advice around mass public gatherings having not changed.
The boutique beer festival, which was scheduled to take place at Maitland Gaol on November 7 and 8, annually brings together scores of brewers and thousands of attendees from across the country.
"COVID-19 has not been kind to the events industry and Bitter & Twisted 2020 is no exception," Maitland Events coordinator Adam Franks said.
"In the interest of our community's health and wellbeing, the decision to cancel Bitter & Twisted was a difficult, but ultimately necessary one."
Earlier this year, Maitland City Council also cancelled SteamFest which was scheduled to be held in April.
