Public health physician Dr David Durrheim has reminded people to be extra cautious and vigilant with social distancing and hygiene measures as more people travel throughout NSW.

"With the October school holidays nearly upon us, many of us are going to be hitting the roads and travelling within NSW," Dr Durrheim said. "We have to be particularly careful though as we travel, because this virus is not worth playing chicken with.

"We know there are hotspots where the virus is still circulating, and in our travel plans we need to make sure we actually avoid those areas."

Dr Durrheim said people from those hotspot areas were also likely to travel.

"So it's very important we keep doing the things that have kept us safe so far - making sure we stand back, making sure we wash our hands regularly and whenever we have touched a surface that others may have touched. And if we get respiratory symptoms - even a mild cough, sore throat or a runny nose - make sure we get isolated and tested."
