The victory puts Maitland in the box seat to qualify for the semi-finals with victory against Valentine next week guaranteeing their spot.

Clarke set up a double for Crowley, sending him to the penalty spot first after drawing a foul in a strong run into the right side of the box in the 90th minute.

Crowley calmly converted the shot to get Maitland back on parity after they had trailing since the 11th minute when Edgeworth's Josh Rose smashed a goal from the edge of the penalty area.

The second goal was straight off the top shelf as Clarke rocketed a cross from the right and Crowley rose in the middle of the penalty area to volley it into the back of the net.

It sparked celebrations reminiscent of last season's win against the top of the table Eagles to grab a two-point break in the race for the 2019 premiers trophy.

"It would have been good to take a point but to steal the three is unbelievable," Magpies goalkeeper Matt Trott said after the game.

"I'm still in shock to be honest. I was getting ready for the last game I would ever play up here and five minutes later we've taken the three points and are a chance for a home semi again.

"Clarkey has been back three or four games and played 90 minutes and basically set up two goals in the last five minutes today off his feet .

"For Crowls to finish the way he did under pressure was fantastic. Taking the penalty that was almost our season on the line and then taking that volley at the end that's why he is the golden boot."

Crowley's double took his tally to 12 goals from 12 games including five from the past two with a hat-trick last week in the Magpies 6-1 win against Adamstown which got their season firmly back on track.

Trott said the Magpies playing group got together in the lead-up to the Adamstown game to discuss where things were going wrong.

"Last week we had a good chat together after two home losses. We got together as a team and just sort of got honest with each other and turned around it last week with the performance," he said.

"Today the gutsiness we showed that was us last year. We were doing that to every team last year."

Trott said communication was the key to turning things around after finding themselves down 1-0 early in the match.

"The first 20 minutes to half an hour we were under the pump. We just couldn't get them under control," he said.

"Their front six don't really play a formation as such, they are all just over the place.

"It's hard to combat you've got to really communicate and we just didn't have that communication for the first little bit.

"We just ground our way out and got through to half-time.

"In the second-half we plugged away, but I was starting to think it wasn't going to happen."

Going into the final regular season game next week, the Magpies sit third on the table with 19 points, one point clear of the Lambton Jaffas and two ahead of Newcastle Olympic.

The Weston Bears (15) and Charlestown Azzurri (14) play today with both teams need full points to remain in the hunt for fifth spot.
