The Bureau of Meteorology said that while there is very little chance of rain on Friday, by Saturday that will have changed.
The Bureau says there is an 80 per cent chance of showers on Saturday, but warns there is a chance of a thunderstorm, possibly severe.
The daytime temperature will be between 22 and 27C.
Sunday will be cloudy, and not as warm as Saturday, but again with an 80 per cent chance of showers, and perhaps even a thunderstorm once again.
Overnight temperatures will fall to between 11 and 14 with daytime temperatures reaching between 17 and 21.
The rain is expected to hang around into next week.
The Bureau says there is a 70 per cent chance of further rainfall on Monday, 60 per cent on Tuesday and 40 per cent on Wednesday.
According to WeatherZone, the lowest temperature recorded in Maitland this year was 1.1C on August 27, and the highest 46C on January 4.
The wettest day was February 9 when 106.6mm fell.
