And if a pre-game prediction by the Magpies goal scoring maestro Braedyn Crowley is as accurate as his finishing then Maitland should reverse last year's 2-0 loss in next Sunday's decider at Newcastle No.2 Sportsground.

"I said to the boys prior to the game 'if we win today, we will win the whole thing'," Crowley said in an interview post-match with BarTV.

"We're winning games, we're dangerous and I can't wait to get into that grand final."

"We will be going into it believing in ourselves."

For the second week in a row the Magpies missed from the penalty spot, but it didn't matter as for the second week in a row Ryan Clarke stepped up when needed and smashed the ball low into the right hand corner past Magic keeper Kane Runge.

Clarke made no mistake pivoting and firing after a clever knock on by Crowley in the penalty area in the 77^th minute.

Crowley sealed the game four minutes later when he was played on by Joel Wood after Wood intercepted an errant Luke Virgili pass. It was Crowley's 10^th goal from the past six games and 17th from 16 games this season.

"I felt I didn't touch the ball as much today but I was just waiting for that one chance and as soon as it came I wanted to take it," Crowley said.

"In the first half we were under the pump. Magic probably had a better first half, but In that second half we just fired, that's what our team does.

"Clarkey just set it off and from there we finished strong."

Runge denied Wood from the penalty spot with a superb save diving low to his left and pushing the ball beyond the net.

Defender Virgili pulled off a similarly impressive save clearing a Liam Thornton header from the line.

But Maitland's custodian Matt Trott was not to be outdone with a terrific save deflecting a James Virgili strike with his outstretched left foot in a one-on-one encounter.

Maitland were forced to take their game to a new level in perhaps the best quality encounter of the season.

Despite 40km/h winds blowing straight down the pitch and rain, there were plenty of chances as both teams played expansive and entertaining football.

Momentum is going Maitland's way with their sixth straight win taking them back to the grand final from an improbable fifth place.

The Magpies and Eagles have a win each from their two encounters this season.

Edgeworth smashed Maitland 4-1 in the opening game of the season, however, Maitland scored twice at home in a come-from-behind victory in round 12 which kept their push for a finals spot alive.
