The Bulls secured a four-wicket win over Raymond Terrace on the back of a huge bowling effort.
Former Terrace junior Alex Lidbury led the way with 3-10 off 8.1 overs, with Shane Wind (3-20) and Daniel Collinson (3-26) also picking up three wicket hauls.
The Bulls, a blend of talented youth and experienced veterans, have shown plenty of promise but went through last year without a win and came up against form team of the competition Thornton in their opening round eight-wicket loss.
Round two was a washed out draw against Kurri Weston.
Tenambit Morpeth's bowlers got on top early and kept the pressure on with only Terrace skipper Steve Smith (19) and Brent Lilley (13) reaching double figures in the top six. The Lions were best served by Daniel Flynn with the top score of 21 and Ricky Mace 20 not out.
In a man of the match performance Collinson top scored for the Bulls with 35 in addition to his three wickets, opener Adam Sidoti made 18, and Tallon Gear added 26 in the total of 6/120.
The Bulls are at home to Northern Suburbs who are equal on to of the table with Thornton.
